First Edition Of The Fantboi Festival Starts In Sant Boi

This week, the first edition of the Sant Boi (Baix Llobregat) Fantastic Film Festival will take place , the Fantboi , which will be held from July 1 to 4 and establishes the Can Castellet cinemas as its main headquarters along with other locations in the population .

Despite the fact that the first edition was marked on the calendar to be held in 2020 , the crisis derived from covid-19 caused all activities to be postponed for a year. The theme of this edition is the figure of the woman in the audiovisual under the slogan: “Fight like a girl!” (Fight like a girl) “.

Thursday and Friday
Thursday will be the day focused on the genre of the B series and will open with the Catalan film Black Roses Symphony (Vick Campbell, 2021), Zombies en el Cañaveral (Pablo Schembri, 2019) and the debut feature Flesh Contagium (2020), by Italian Lorenzo Lepori, a film with a pandemic as the protagonist.

Weekend
On Saturday morning the festival will allow you to enjoy on the big screen the Japanese animation classic Princess Mononoke (Hayao Miyazaki, 1997). In the afternoon there will be one of the most curious productions of the festival with Don Filipo (Tim Munoz, 2021), a Philippine horror production about disappearances with a high LGTBI content; Canadian Sayo (Jeremy Rubio, 2020), a fantasy drama shot in Japan with a very oriental and contemplative cadence; and The Dawn of Kaiju Eiga (Jonathan Bellés, 2019), a documentary about the origins of Godzilla, shot in Japan.

The short films will be divided into two blocks: a marathon of horror gore shorts under the title “Sang Boi” , scheduled for Saturday night; and an intensive of the best fantastic national and international shorts that can be seen on Sunday afternoon. In addition, those who stay until the end of the marathon will receive a gift from the El Setanta-Nou store in Barcelona, ​​an official partner of the festival.

The jury of the Official Section is made up of three professional members of the sector, such as the director and screenwriter Caye Casas (Killing God or RIP), the director and creator of visual effects Frankie de Leonardis (Floating or Ender’s game) and Marta Salvador , cultural manager and creator of the film distributor Distributions with Glasses, who will act as spokesperson for the jury.

In its first edition, the poster design has been the work of the illustrator Eva Moreno Ruíz , which has iconic elements of the fantastic, such as the T-shirt from the film Aliens or the artichoke, Sant Boi’s most characteristic agricultural product.
