The teacher, stage director, author and interpreter Sílvia Ferrando will be the new general director of the Institut del Teatre. With this appointment, the center aims to close the transitional stage that began when Magda Puyo resigned from office, following complaints of abuse of power and sexual harassment against several teachers at the center .
As reported this Monday by the Barcelona Provincial Council, Ferrando has passed the selection process to access the position and his appointment will take effect on July 5.
Sílvia Ferrando will replace Núria Plana, who was named provisional director on April 1 as a matter of urgency, after the publication on March 26 of the contest rules for the position of director.
In the selection process, the three candidatures submitted have been evaluated and that of Sílvia Ferrando, who has a doctorate in Performing Arts and has been a teacher at the Institut del Teatre since 2007, has been selected.
Her professional career includes more than forty scenic projects, in which she has participated as a director, playwright or actress, in spaces such as the Teatre Lliure, the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, the Spanish Theater or the Teatros del Canal de Madrid, as well as in events such as the Grec Festival, the Temporada Alta, the Fira de Tàrrega or the Sitges International Theater Festival.
This July he signed the dramaturgy and direction of ‘Hernán Cortés is written with ñ’, a piece co-produced by the Grec Festival and which can be seen at the Sala Hiroshima in Barcelona.
