Beautiful – Carole King Announces Her UK Tour of The Hit Musical
A new UK show of Beautiful – The Carole King Musical, the Olivier, Tony, and Grammy Award-winning musical, will begin at Curve in February 2022. Nicholas Foster (Sunset Boulevard, West Side Story) is the film’s director. From Monday 28 February to Saturday 12 March, Beautiful will open at THE CURVE before moving to THEATRE ROYAL BATH and MAYFLOWER THEATRE Southampton. More dates and casts will be announced soon.
It will present a talented cast of actor-musicians performing countless classics. It includes You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman, Take Good Care of My Baby, Up on the Roof, Locomotion, and You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling and tracing King’s amazing rise to stardom.
Carole King’s music will be orchestrated by Grammy Award-winning Steve Sidwell and adapted by Tony Award-winning Curve Associate and Musical Supervisor Sarah Travis. The choreography is by rising star Leah Hill. The artistic team is completed by Set Designer Frankie Bradshaw, Costume Designer Edd Lindley, Lighting Designer, Sound Designer Tom Marshall, Curve Associate Ben Cracknell, Casting Director, and Curve Associate Kay Magson CDG.
This musical, written by Douglas McGrath, features songs by Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann, and Cynthia Weil. Molly-Grace Cutler (Girls Don’t Play Guitars, The Worst Witch, We’ll Live and Die in These Towns) will star as Carole King in Beautiful. Gerry Goffin, Carole’s former husband and collaborator will be played by Tom Milner (Holby City, Waterloo Road). Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann will be played by Seren Sandham-Davies (Crazy For You, Brassed Off) and Jos Slovick, who appeared in Once’s original West End production.
Curve welcomes back Garry Robson as music producer and talent manager Don Kirshner. Garry last appeared on stage in Leicester in 2018 Made at Curve production of White Christmas. The musical will feature Carole’s mother, Genie Klein, played by Claire Greenway, with musical director Dan de Cruz. The remaining cast members are Naomi Alade, Sorrel Jordan, Kemi Clarke, Chris Coxon, Amena El-Kindy, Louise Francis, Dylan Gordon-Jones, Jessica Jolleys, Myles Miller, Peter Mooney, Adrien Spencer, and Kevin Yates.
According to Curve’s Chief Executive Chris Stafford and Artistic Director Nikolai Foster, “Carole King’s songs are among the best ever written. We are honored to be working on this new production with some of the finest actors and musicians in the UK. In collaboration with Grammy Award-winning Steve Sidwell and Tony Award-winning Sarah Travis, we are honored to weave King’s songs into a tapestry of music. Additionally, we are pleased to be working with our partners at Theatre Royal Bath and Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre.”
Additionally, the production will provide training programs for Regional Theatre Young Directors Scheme (RTYDS) Resident Associate and trainee Directors Lilac Yosiphon and Thyrza Abrahams, respectively.
