This weekend actress Jonshel Alexander passed away in Louisiana . According to The Hollywood Reporter , he was in a car with a man in his native New Orleans when someone unidentified shot them. While Alexander was pronounced dead, the man was taken to a hospital for treatment. The police have launched an investigation looking for the culprit, while throughout the country tributes to Alexander are given in reference to the only film he starred in, when he was 10 years old. It was Beasts of the Wild South , released in 2012 and whose director, Benh Zeitlin , has already claimed to be devastated by the loss.
Alexander was the youngest of three children, and Zeitlin noticed her for a drama he was preparing about the Louisiana swamp community. Wendy’s signer used the services of non-professional native actors in the area and went on to hold more than 4,000 auditions to complete the cast. Shelly Alexander , mother of the deceased, has assured that her daughter dazzled the team. “She said ‘I’m going to be in the movie,’ and they fell in love with Jonshel . ” She, however, was too old for the main role of Hushpuppy, which ended up playing Quvenzhané Wallis while Alexander did the same with Joy Strong, a character written expressly for her.
Zeitlin has described Alexander as “an absolutely unique, unforgettable human being, a force of nature.” “We incorporated a part very inspired by her into the film. Many lines were written like this, and much of the character came from what Jonshel was . ” Beasts of the South Wild won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for four Oscars including Best Picture. Despite this reception, Alexander did not return to acting, working in restaurants and caring for his one-year -old daughter De-vynne Robinson .
